FENWAY

So we finally got the roof rack and the cap on the truck, got geared up, said goodbye to Vermont:(, and headed for Boston. It was 5pm when we arrived, much later then we wanted, but thats just how it worked out. After battling the traffic we pulled into town and found the Omni Parker Hotel. We got denied for the overnight parking in the garage because that bitter sweet rack made us exceed the height limit, so we found a parking spot that had a 2am restriction and we jumped the subway to Kenmore. Outside Fenway phish fans flooded the streets as the rain started. Then it really started to pour and fans restlessly made their way to the entrances. The overall vibe was up beat and very positive. Good ol Baston, the scent of hot dogs and incense filled the air while that great Baston accent let you know you were in Massachusetts. The mixture of old and new fans was good to see. Bumped into many friends from my past, and everyone was just excited to see the band after 5 years of hiatus. As we found our way to section 6 where there was good dancing room the sky parted and the boys walked out on to the field sporting their red sock jerseys and performed the star spangled banner. The crowd went wild. It was a trip to see that many folks all crowded around to see these 4 fellas regroup. Fenway is huge, and I am honored to say I had the opportunity to see the band take this next step in their career. From the unh gym were we first saw them in 93, to the Worcester Centrum in 94, to the Clifford Ball their first festival in 96, to now Fenway Park some 16 years later. The show was perfect. Besides the Destiny Unbound (3rd time played in the history of the band) drop and the Curtis Loew (Allen Collins and Ronnie Van Zant and performed by Lynyrd Skynyrd tune) another big drop from the old days, and the flawless Cavern (two thumbs up fellas) this show sported many highlighted moments. Here is the set list:

I. Sample In A Jar, Moma Dance, Chalk Dust Torture, Ocelot^, Stash, Bouncing Around The Room, Poor Heart, Limb By Limb, Wading In The Velvet Sea, Down With Disease, Destiny Unbound, Character Zero

II. Tweezer, Light^ > , Bathtub Gin, David Bowie, Time Turns Elastic^, Free, The Ballad Of Curtis Loew, You Enjoy Myself

E. Cavern, Good Times Bad Times, Tweezer Reprise

Many thanks to Phish, and thank you, for making the tour opener a smooth and pleasant way to begin this summer 09 journey. After the show, Brando and I went to the bar Game On with our sister, bro, and met up with some old friends. We then made it back the hotel with sissy and bro and had this killer clam chowder at 2am, then headed back to NH where we crashed in a rest area. It all worked out. The next morning we awoke, found a starbucks to plug in the computers, and got cranking on cashforyourextra in preparation for Jones Beach.
